In probably one of the strangest casting bits in a while, it seems that Marvel and James Gunn have found their leader for Guardians of the Galaxy. For the past few months, we have seen reports of numerous actors trying out for the role, however it seems that it was a name that no one knew was up for the role that ultimately was chosen to lead this intergalactic team.
Chris Pratt, best know for his character Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation and most recently, his transformation into a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty, is the newest member to the Marvel Heroes club. Deadline broke the news of Pratt’s casting and let’s just say if Pratt wasn’t a major name before, he is now. Taking the lead role as Peter Quill in the Guardians film will be no easy task for Pratt, however after seeing his physical transformation in Zero Dark Thirty he can definitely pull off the role and better hit the gym soon. Pratt did an interview with E! News back in December in which he mentioned that he has lost the physique from Zero Dark Thirty and has put on almost 60 pounds for a new role in a film he is doing. Looks like someone will be hitting the weights again very soon if he plans on becoming a half-human/half-alien hero in 2014.
This is just one of many upcoming casting announcements for the film and I expect to start seeing more come out sooner rather than later. Gunn is currently over in London getting ready to begin pre-production on the film. Now that we know about Pratt, would it be that surprising to learn that he might be making a cameo in say Iron Man 3 now? There have been reports that Iron Man 3 will tie into the Guardians film somehow and with the recent casting of Pratt, one might start to think that we might see him sooner as Peter Quill rather than later.
