I don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve been wondering why Chris Tucker disappeared from Hollywood after Rush Hour 3. Granted, that wasn’t the best movie but it sure as hell wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen. After a very long hiatus, we will soon get to see funny-man Tucker star in a supporting role in David O. Russell’s new film, The Silver Linings Playbook. That film, which has been generating some great buzz for all the actors, seems to have been the launching pad for Tucker who is now in talks to star as Omar Sy’s character, Driss, in the French true story dramedy, The Intouchables.
If you haven’t seen the film the movie is about a guy from the Streets, named Driss, who is looking for a job and happens to become the caretaker for a millionaire quadriplegic (François Cluzet). Overall, it’s a pretty entertaining film and has done really well for itself around the globe and is probably why France decided to make that it’s contender for best foreign language film.
Apparently, Colin Firth is in talks to play Cluzet’s role opposite Tucker while Paul Feig is supposedly looking at directing the heartwarming english language picture.
Blackfilm.com caught up with Tucker and asked him about the remake:
Have you seen The Intouchables? Would you consider doing the remake?
TUCKER: I’ve seen it and yes, I have been talking with them (producers) about doing it. I hope something will come out of it because I really like the movie and they are in the process of getting it together. So there’s a possibility that it might happen.
Chris Tucker is perfect for the fast talking street guy with swag as it’s a role he has mastered over the years. I couldn’t see anyone else playing the character and would love it if this came to fruition despite my feelings on remakes. He’ll be able to bring a level of energy to the role that few actors can match. If you want to get an idea of what the film’s about take a look at the trailer below.
