I love mythology, I love Greek Mythology and I love Clash of the Titans. Talk about a movie with so much action, so much adventure, and a story of epic proportions that it’s no wonder they’ve decided to remake it. Typically, I’m not one to encourage remakes of classics but this one was definitely due and I only wish I could have been part of making it. Watch the trailer and more after the jump.
A modern take on the 1981 classic, there is clearly a move away from the stop motion effects of the 80s and has been replaced with CG, for better or worse. While I loved the original, I wonder if the new one will have any of the same type of magic encompassed within it with regards to the fun little side characters and Perseus’ supporting soldiers.
As a man that loves the realm of fantasy, adventure, and mythology, Clash of the Titans comes off as a Lord of the Rings type of epic and is really trying to attract the mainstream audience with this style. At the same time it seems the trailer is still trying to retain some of the cheesiness of the original with the tag line “TITANS WILL CLASH!” If that wasn’t the point then I want to know who their copywriter was so I can smack him/her for such a horrible and unoriginal tag-lining job. Additionally, the trailer itself gives you a look at the CG and how it has been incorporated into the movie with regards to the many mythological creatures featured in the film. The film’s acting and effects come off as much more ferocious but should be expected in the modern age of cinema and with Sam Worthington as the lead. After you watch it let me know what you think in the comments section.
For those that don’t know anything about mythology or the story behind clash of the titans the following is a synopsis provided by imdb: A remake of the 1981 film version of the myth of Perseus and his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda.
The film is directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter 2) and stars Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) as Perseus, Liam Neeson (Taken) as Zeus, and Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter) as Hades. I want to thank Legendary Pictures for being bold and carefully selecting movies to remake or adapt and thought I would let you know that I am extremely excited for the release of this film. The expected release date is March 26, 2010
Now do yourself a favor and check out the trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans. As an added bonus I even embedded the trailer for the original and an MTV’s behind the scenes look at the remake.
