Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood more-or-less promised that his unforgettable role in Gran Torino would be his final acting gig as he fully committed himself to directing (something he had already been doing — quite successfully I might add — for decades anyway). But that was before Beyonce became pregnant, which now has Eastwood considering a return to acting.
Wait… what does a pop star’s pregnancy have to do with Eastwood acting again? Well if you remember, Eastwood’s next project after his upcoming J. Edgar was to be a remake of A Star is Born starring Beyonce. But pregnancy has a tendency to disregard film schedules and that project has been either put on hold (the more positive reports) or canceled outright (the more negative reports). With Eastwood having no other projects lined up, what is the legend going to do? He sure isn’t the type to sit still — after all, since his film debut in 1955 Eastwood has either directed, acted in, or produced at least one film or TV show in every year except 2001, 1996, 1994, 1991, 1987 and 1981.
Deadline reports that Eastwood is “seriously” considering starring in Trouble With The Curve, about “an aging baseball scout, who’s losing his sight, and heads on a last road trip to Atlanta with his daughter to scout a hotshot prospect.” This would also be the first film Eastwood would star in but not direct himself since 1993’s In The Line of Fire, as Eastwood’s frequent producing partner and second unit director, Robert Lorenz, would make his directorial debut on the film.
I’m happy to see Eastwood in a film again as long as he thinks the script is as good as Gran Torino… though that’s a hard order. Either way, I’m happy to see that Eastwood isn’t letting a thing like pregnancy stop him from working!
