The action drama Drive stars Ryan Gosling (All Good Things) as “a Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong,” according to IMDB. Based on the clip below, if you’re a fan of Drive Angry or Fast Five, then this is the movie for you!
Also adding to the mix are Academy Award nominated actress Carey Mulligan (An Education), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Ron Pearlman (Conan the Barbarian), Albert Brooks (Finding Nemo), and Oscar Isaac (Sucker Punch).
The Cannes Film Festival website has release a gripping two-minute clip from the movie, which Screen Rant says “paints a picture of a character-driven film that will be heavy on tension and atmosphere.” Cinema Blend adds, “The clip is extremely low on dialogue – in fact, Gosling doesn’t say a single word – but it’s incredibly tense. The action starts just as the video ends, but if it is anywhere near as cool as these two minutes, then we can only expect the best.”
Screen Junkies praises the director with “Nicolas Winding Refn is doing his part to bring back the cool car chase movie.” He is currently in pre-production for Logan’s Run, which also stars Gosling. In addition, the script was written by Hossein Amini (The Wings of the Dove), based on the book by James Sallis.
The movie premieres later this month at Cannes and we can expect to see it hit the big screen on September 16th. Check out a few of the movie stills, courtesy of The Social Life (which has a whole 22 images from the set), as well as the very exciting clip.
