The great think about the Internet is that it has made the speed of information travel so fast now that questions usually get answered pretty quickly. So when I posted the totally unreliable rumor from Tara Reid about a sequel to The Big Lebowski the other day I more-or-less expected a prompt response from someone who would know better. Luckily we’ve gotten word about the project from as high as it gets: the Coen brothers themselves! Hit “more” to find out the humorous response the Coens had to the question of a sequel to the film that gave us The Dude…
Matthew Odam of Austin 360 had a chance to ask the Coens what the deal was during an interview as the director duo do the Oscar press rounds for True Grit. According to Odam, when he asked them about Reid‘s comments on the Lebowski sequel:
Ethan responded with a chuckle, saying, “I’m glad she’s working on it.”
When I asked if they actually had something in the works, Ethan said, “Well, we don’t but we’ll watch it when it comes out.” To which Joel quickly added, “Especially if Tara’s in it.”
However, Tara Reid‘s spokespeople did a bit of spin control by telling Entertainment Weekly, “She heard Jeff Bridges say that he wanted to make ‘Big Lebowski 2’ and have all the original cast members in it, so she may have misspoke, thinking that included her based on what Jeff said.” I don’t know… if you watch the video in my original post, she seems pretty damn convinced that the film was a go. I’d hate to be in her head.
Well, do you have any ideas for a Big Lebowski sequel, even if there’s no plan for one? Let us know in the comments below, dude!
