There seems to be a bit of casting news circulating for quite a few projects and we now have heard that Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz are now set to star in Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos The Lobster. Anyone who has seen any of Mr. Lanthimos’ previous films (2009’s Dogtooth or 2011’s Alps) knows he’s not well-known for his mainstream ideas (I’m guessing demented families and crazy organizations don’t click with some people). The Lobster looks like he may top even his most strangest.
The storyline?
“…an unconventional love story set in a dystopian near future where single people, according to the rules of the Town, are arrested and transferred to the Hotel. There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into the woods. A desperate Man escapes from the Hotel to the Woods where the Loners live and there he falls in love, although it’s against their rules.”
Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke, Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw, Broadchurch’s Olivia Colman, and Blue Is The Warmest Color’s Lea Seydoux have also signed on for this extraordinary dystopian sci-fi drama.
