Huh. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about upcoming films — after all, I write for MovieBuzzers.com — but I have to honestly confess that I had no idea that a remake of The Crow was in the pipeline, let alone that Mark Wahlberg was rumored to play the lead. Then again, we DO live in an era of filmmaking when remakes have become a dominant source of a studio’s revenue, so I guess we should naturally expect that every film is in preproduction for a remake.
Anyway, I digress. The real news here is that according to Cinematical, Wahlberg is out of The Crow remake. Hit more to find out more details about Wahlberg’s departure from film and additional details on the upcoming remake.
In October, writer-director Stephen Norrington (Blade) left the film, reportedly over differences over the script with the attached star of the film, who we can assume to be Wahlberg. Although I guess we can’t assume that – Wahlberg told Cinematical that he left the film because “They talked to me about it and there was a director attached who I was a fan of, and he’s no longer doing it.” So Norrington left the film because Wahlberg wanted changes to the script, and Wahlberg left the film because Norrington left? As I said before… Huh. Only in Hollywood.
The script for The Crow was written by Norrington and “punched up” by musician Nick Cave, who wrote the script for the great Western The Proposition. The future of this film is definitely up in the air right now, but let us know what you think – would you even like to see a remake of The Crow?
