There have been numerous reports speculating about the list of potential actors competing for the role of Harry Osborn in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Today Webb took to twitter to make the announcement that Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) has been cast to play Peter Parker’s best friend, Harry Osborn.
Here is the tweet from Webb:
DeHaan beat out an impressive list of potential candidates which included Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Boyd Holbrook, Brady Corbet, Alden Ehrenreich and pretty much every young up and coming actor in Hollywood right now. DeHaan was fantastic in Chronicle and if that performance is what we can expect from him as Osborn, then I think we are in for a real treat. The plan is that either Harry or Norman will become the Green Goblin and will be the main antagonist in the third film. It will be interesting to see the route Webb decides to go in order to get to this point in the story.
This casting announcement comes along with a string of others that have been made in the prior weeks. First we found out that Shailene Woodley would be playing the other love interest in Spidey’s life, Mary Jane Watson. Then news came out that Jamie Foxx would be playing the villain Electro in the sequel.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release May 2, 2012.
