As I previously reported, Universal has gotten a bit nervous about it’s very expensive multi-film/television project that adapts Stephen King’s seven book Dark Tower series. Now Deadline is reporting that while the project is back on, the production date has been pushed back until February. Between now and then director Ron Howard and producer/co-screenwriter Akira Goldsmith will work with Universal on bringing the budget down. There’s no word on what will happen if that can’t be done, however…
If production does resume, the film series will be directed by Ron Howard, with Akiva Goldsmith and Mark Verheiden writing the screenplays. Javier Bardem is set to star as Roland the gunslinger. The first film is set for a May 17, 2013 release, although that date seems unlikely now that the start of production has been pushed back six months.
