Darren Aronofsky must be going thorough an “iconic historical figure” phase.
Though his next film will be Noah, which will star Russell Crowe as the Biblical arc-builder, Aronofsky is prepping his next movie, The General, which will be about George Washington. Variety reports that Aronofsky will produce and direct the movie, and says it isn’t a biopic but more along the lines of a movie like Unforgiven. I don’t recall Washington hunting crooked sheriffs, but Unforgiven is one of my all-time favorite movies so this sounds like a good thing so far.
However, the script is by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, which gives me pause: this duo wrote New York Minute and Accepted and are given story credit for Tower Heist, none of which makes me think they can pull off anything remotely like Unforgiven.
Paramount has a first-look deal with Aronofsky, but he’s free to shop the project around if the studio passes on it. Now, which of today’s actors do you think can pull off George Washington?
