If you know your American history, you’ll know the name William H. Seward: Abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of State and a fierce abolitionist. Since he was one of Lincoln’s key advisors, it’s no surprise that he is going to be included in Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming film, Lincoln.
According to Deadline David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck, L.A. Confidential) has been cast as Seward, which is curious because Strathairn wasn’t listed as one of the actors in “negotiations” early last month. As of now, only Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln), Sally Field (Mary Todd Lincoln), Tommy Lee Jones (Thaddeus Stevens) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Robert Todd Lincoln) have been officially been cast.
Lincoln will be based on the book Team of Rivals by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. The book was adapted by Tony Kushner, who previously worked with Spielberg on Munich. It’s set for a late 2012 release.
