What’s next, an adventure film based on the spinning teacups?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has tapped writer Justin Dean Hall (Spread) to write a screenplay titled The Hill about the famous Disneyland Matterhorn Bobsled ride, which opened in 1959 and is still going strong. The story reports that the film will be based on an adventure five friends have on the mountain, and would of course feature a generous helping of the Matterhorn’s yetis. Justin Springer (Tron Legacy, Prom) has been tapped as the film’s producer of The Hill. And no, this is not a remake of Sidney Lumet‘s awesome military prison film The Hill, which starred Sean Connery (I’m sure you were confused).
Of course, Disney has started to make millions turning their theme park rides into films — just look at the Pirates of the Caribbean series — so this is no surprise. I’m actually surprised that Disney went for the Matterhorn before its Florida cousin Space Mountain… but I’m sure that a Space Mountain film will hit theaters within the decade.
