Oh what joyous news has been brought forth on this glorious ninth day of May. Not only is producer Raymond Wong, writer Edmond Wong and director Wilson Yip returning for IP Man 3 but it has been confirmed that Donnie Yen will be returning to reprise his role as the legendary master, something he said he didn’t plan on doing.
Not only will the entire Ip Man 1 and 2 gang be reuniting for the third film, this one will be shot in 3D and will finally feature Bruce Lee, the legendary star who Ip Man trained. Lynn Hung and Yu Bo are set to co-star alongside Yen in the aptly titled Ip Man 3D, with the studio shooting for a 2013 release date. Pegasus Motion Pictures will start selling the picture during Cannes.
As you can probably tell, I’m a wee bit excited for this film. It would be awesome to see Donnie Yen kicking ass in 3D and, granted, I haven’t seen a martial arts flick in that medium, as long as it doesn’t have shaky cam I can’t imagine it would be nauseating. There’s a lot of potential to get punched in the face while you watch the movie…by your friend though. Anyway, I’ll let you know my thoughts on martial arts in 3D after I see Jet Li’s Flying Swords of Dragon Gate.
How do all of you feel about this? Do you think the team will find a way to go even bigger for what will most likely be the final installment of this Ip Man series?
Thanks to Twitch for the heads up
