In probably one of the strangest bit of news to come out recently about the blockbuster film The Hunger Games, if you happen to be a huge fan of the book/film and also happen to be a millionaire, you can now own the actual location where District 12 was shot for the film.
Henry River Mill Village a.k.a District 12, is an abandoned town that has recently been put up for sale for the low price of $1.4 million. What one lucky buyer will obtain is about 72 acres of land which hosts a ghost town with an interesting back story. The town has been around since the Great Depression and has seen everything from fires, poker games, drunken looters, drug deals and now a Hollywood set. And if those brief historical facts don’t interest you, the Mill and the town is supposedly haunted.
The owner of the land, 83-year-old Wade Shepard, is selling because there has been an abundance of visitors recently and feels like it is time to let the land he has owned for many years go. Just out of curiosity, I zillowed a bunch of land for sale in the area and it seems that the price is a bit high, but it was originally listed for $1.8 Million, not to mention its the home of District 12!
I’m sure an investor or even Lionsgate will come in and purchase the land because even though the price seems a bit steep, there potential to turn this into a profitable investment. There are still two films left to go in the series and District 12 is a part of each of them, not to mention once the filming is done, you can turn it into a tourist attraction for a few years until the films and books run their course. It’s a risky investment to say the least, but still would be cool to own a piece of The Hunger Games.
Here is a video giving a little background on the history of the land.
And if you are a google map person or want to do some further investigation of the land, here is the address.
