The geekiest and most time-consuming game of all time is finally coming to the big screen now that it has finally found itself a director. The Hollywood Reporter landed the scoop that the crafty Sci-Fi director Duncan Jones would be hemling the video game adaptation of Warcraft for Legendary Pictures.
World of Warcraft is a massive online role playing game that takes over the lives of its players. It has been hilariously parodied by South Park and has probably one of the funniest YouTube videos ever which involves Leroy Jenkins ruining the game for a few of his teammates.
This marks a huge jump is scope and budget for Jones who launched his career with Moon and followed it up with Source Code which cost $1 million and $35 million respectively. The Warcraft movie has a budget of $100 million and should pose a good challenge for Jones who faces an up-hill battle. Not only will he have to make a movie that the fans love, but he has to make a good video game movie, something that has been tough to do but is slowly starting to show signs of positive life. The plot for the story is being kept under wraps but the script was written by Charles Leavitt. Legendary is aiming for a fall start with a 2015 release by Warner Bros.
I’ve never played World of Warcraft and nor do I have any intention to as I have a feeling I’ll lost my life to it but I am hoping that Jones somehow involves the panda from the latest ediiton to the franchise Mists of Pandaria, because seriously, who doesn’t like fighting pandas?
What are your thoughts on Jones being selected as the director? Think he can handle it?
