The second Hercules film is set to release this summer on July 25th and you might be wondering, wait, there was already another Hercules film that came out this year? Yup, exactly my point, it was garbage. I was originally interested in the only Hercules film that mattered simply because Dwayne Johnson was signed up and was clearly made to play the role, bringing an intensity to the screen that fits the legacy of such a famous character.
The first trailer for the film has arrived and it’s got Dwayne Johnson rockin’ the Nemean Lion head garb, cuts of him about to battle gigantic foes, like the mythological creature known as Hydra, which is all the film needs to get me in a seat, and a soldiers both ready to help and kill Hercules.
That being said, you need to take everything you see and potentially like with this trailer and film with a grain of salt as it’s directed by Brett Ratner, the guy who made X-Men: The Last Stand. It’s also pretty clear who the target market is with this film just by looking at the logo. I’m really not a fan of it and wish they would steer away from the 300-style typeface since it sells it as a CGI intensive mythological actioner, which it is, but I feel like it alienates other demographics that may want to see The Rock kick ass (I know this sound ridiculous). Other than those complaints this could be a fun actioner that’s got your typical Hercules story and a whole lot of ass-whooping.
Check out the trailer for the upcoming film below and let us know what you think.
Based on Radical Comics’ Hercules by Steve Moore, this ensemble-action film is a revisionist take on the classic myth, HERCULES. The epic action film also stars Golden Globe Winner Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and Academy Award®-nominee John Hurt.
