Update: Deadline has just reported that Emma Stone has actually turned down the offer to play the lead role in the film. Damn it! She would have made a decent Elizabeth Bennet. Original story follows:
THR is reporting that Emma Stone has been offered the lead role in the movie adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith‘s novel, Pride, Prejudice and Zombie. She will be playing heroine Elizabeth Bennet in the film.
This not all that shocking news, Stone was among the list of ladies of Hollywood up for the role. Stone is becoming quite the leading lady as of recently and it doesn’t hurt that she has experience in this genre of film (Zombieland). The final script work on the film is still being completed so we should expect more casting to be announced fairly soon. The only other person we know that is attached to the film is the director, Craig Gillespie.
Here is a description of Smith’s novel from Amazon:
This may be the most wacky by-product of the busy Jane Austen fan-fiction industry—at least among the spin-offs and pastiches that have made it into print. In what’s described as an “expanded edition” of Pride and Prejudice, 85 percent of the original text has been preserved but fused with “ultraviolent zombie mayhem.” For more than 50 years, we learn, England has been overrun by zombies, prompting people like the Bennets to send their daughters away to China for training in the art of deadly combat, and prompting others, like Lady Catherine de Bourgh, to employ armies of ninjas. Added to the familiar plot turns that bring Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy together is the fact that both are highly skilled killers, gleefully slaying zombies on the way to their happy ending. Is nothing sacred?
