Entertainment Weekly has been the go-to for anything breaking about Captain America: The First Avenger, so naturally who else would get the first still featuring Cap’s arch-villain Red Skull? The villainous Nazi — who is played by Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings) under all that make-up — serves as the main villain of the World War II-set upcoming Cap film.
For those of you new to Captain America, the Red Skull is really Johann Schmidt, a young German man who had a chance meeting with Adolf Hitler, who saw something evil in young Schmidt and decided to make him a symbol of Nazi aggression and intimidation. It’s because of the Red Skull that the United States government decides they need a hero of their own. One guess of who that might be!
Now THIS is definitely the type of costume that you can only say “damn… they got it.” I imagine, however, that we’ll see the Red Skull donning various Nazi uniforms throughout the film.
Captain America: The First Avenger is set for a July release and is directed by Joe Johnston. It stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
