Over the past few weeks, there have been rumors and actual casting announcements for the upcoming Fast Six film which will bring back Fast Five director Justin Lin. We know that Gina Carano will have a role in the upcoming film, but whether it will be a villain role or a love interest is still to be determined. Today however, we have confirmation on who will be playing the main villain in the film.
Rumors were popping up that Luke Evans was in talks to play the baddie in the sequel and it seems those rumors have come true. Variety reported that Evans has signed onto the Fast and Furious franchise and will be playing a rival heist team leader.
While we don’t know a whole lot about the plot of the film, it was said back when Fast Five hit theaters that the plan was to move away from the street racing aspect and transition into a heist franchise, which they clearly pulled off in Fast Five. Originally it was thought that the film would try and get Jason Statham or Rihanna for a villain role, but I feel that Evans will make a fine villain and is a solid casting choice.
It should be interesting to see where exactly this film will fall amongst the time line in the Fast and Furious world and who from the original crew will be returning. I hope they move forward in time a bit so that Tokyo Drift won’t be the ‘final film’ in the timeline and just let Han rest in peace or explain that he faked his death somehow. Its just weird to see people we know die in a film and still participate in other films as if nothing ever happened.
Fast Six will begin production this June in London and Berlin. Returning cast member include Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez,Jordana Brewster, and Dwayne Johnson. Sadly it looks like Ludacris might miss out on this heist along with Tyrese.
