After years of battling, scripting issues, budgeting issues and rewrites, it seems that these were just minor hiccups for the movie adaptation of Max Brooks’ World War Z. The film was originally suppose to hit theaters this Christmas, however the film had to do a ton of reshooting and rescripting because the studio wasn’t happy with what they had thus far. Today we have our first teaser for the trailer and let’s just say, whatever you read in the book, just go ahead and toss that all away.
In the book, we follow along a UN worker who goes around interviewing people after a zombie outbreak takes places and runs wild through the world. in the film, Brad Pitt plays the United Nations employee Gerry Lane. Gerry travels the zombie-destroyed world looking for a way to save the world and also to be reunited with his wife and kids. Oh yeah and somehow the zombies are super fast and flow through cities like a hive of bees. Check it out thanks to ET and lets discuss after the video.
As you can see if you have read the book, this film really seems to have no similarities besides the title and Pitt being a UN worker. I’m not really sure what they are going for with this film and I guess we will have to wait until Thursday when the actual trailer is released, but I’m starting to get a bad feeling. Maybe the trailer will salvage it and this could just be a really bad teaser, whatever the case may be fans are already furious with the handling of the film and book.
Having never read the book, I can’t voice too much of an opinion comparing the two, however after watching the footage, I’m starting to have doubts about this film. I really want to be wrong and I am hoping the trailer will prove me wrong, but there is a cheesy feeling with this footage and it just seems a bit over the top. I mean come on, super fast intelligent zombies that can work together to climb massive protection walls? I get a strong I Am Legend vibe from the footage, and we all know how that went.
World War Z takes over June 21st, 2013.
