We love you Roger Corman. The man who brought us Rock ‘n’ Roll High School and the Death Race movies is eighty-five years old and is still putting out some of the best schlock out there. Among Corman’s most cheesy productions have been his recent venture into producing “hybrid” monster movies, including Dinocroc, Dinoshark, the upcoming Piranhaconda, and perhaps the most ridiculous, Sharktopus. One would assume that Corman might have had his fill producing such films, but in an interview with Flixist Corman mentions that we may not have seen the last of the Sharktopus. The website reports that Corman mentioned that he “may” make a sequel to Sharktopus, but “that may sound kind of iffy, but he said it with one of those smiles, the ones that tell you, ‘Of course I’m going to make a Sharktopus 2.'”
Now while I’ve never seen Sharktopus, the below trailer for the original seems like something that would be fantastic with a case a beer and a few close friends. By the way, aspiring filmmakers: be well aware that there’s a huge difference between movies that suck and movies that intentionally suck (such as Sharktopus) before you criticize Corman. He’s been doing it since your parents were in diapers!
Anyway, let’s hope Corman doesn’t spend any more money on the special effects — they look terrible the way they are, and that’s the way they ought to be!
