Today the trailer has dropped for the highly anticipated sequel to the Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed by Marc Webb. For some the trailer will make you happy, but for others like myself I can’t help feel that’s it’s hollow, shallow and appeals to no part of the geek inside me. In fact, the trailer for the film looks more like a video game with cut scenes to live-action actors, which includes Andrew Garfield, Dane Dehaan, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Jamie Foxx, and Emma Stone, rather than the other way around.
The one thing to take note of is that we don’t see Paul Giamatti, we only see the Rhino machine that he controls, and that Harry Osborn is going to play a rather important role in the film, much more than I anticipated. Might I add that I hate the fact that Rhino is a machine? Why can’t he by a guy in a Rhino suit, I don’t understand what the filmmakers and studio have against making the characters look something like the comics. They made The Lizard look like a goomba in the Super Mario Bros. movie, Electro looks like a blue homeless man
The only cool part is that OsCorp is going to be a big player in how this universe unfolds because in the trailer we see the tentacles for Doc Ock so one can only imagine that the Symbiote for Venom is lurking somewhere in there as well to set up the third film. We know it probably exists after Webb tweeted out an image that might relate to that Symbiote way back during production of the film.
All I ask is that this film doesn’t turn into the third Raimi Spider-Man film so we don’t have to start this series over again.
Check out the trailer and full synopsis below and let us know what you think.
We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.
It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.
