With 2012 being the year of the Super Heroes, it’s easy to forget that there are other films coming out that have the potential to blow our socks off. One of those films is Ruben Fleischer‘s Gangster Squad which is based on the true story of a squad of LA Police officers (Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte) and their war against mob boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) in the 1940’s. Michael Pena, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone and Giovanni Ribisi star as well.
A trailer for the film has just been released by Apple, and I must say this film is going to be epic.
Check out the trailer below.
Here is the official synopsis for the film:
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
Now there isn’t a release date for Gangster Squad at this moment, but with the way the trailer looks and production completed on the film, there is a good chance we might see the film sometime this year.
