While I was in college, one of my film professors asked us to come up with a few classic novels we would like to make/remake into a film or see made into a film. Immediately I said I would love to make a solid blockbuster worthy remake of Herman Melville‘s Moby Dick. However, I would like to see someone crazy enough to try and remake George Orwell‘s 1984, because the only person I feel worthy enough to give it the respect and mind altering representation it deserves has since passed away, R.I.P Stanley Kubrick. Don’t get me wrong, the film directed by Michael Radford is great, but I wanted something more.
Thankfully, it looks like someone is going to attempt to give it a shot and bring 1984 back to the big screens. The Hollywood Reporter has released that Imagine Entertainment plans on tackling the project head on There is no word on a script or when the film could get underway, but it’s interesting to note that street artist Shepard Fairey could serve as a producer for the film.
I am very excited for this news and love seeing these old novels/films getting revamped and introduced to a new generation, especially with the technology available today. If done right, this could be a huge film that would interest people in all age groups. If, I’m not mistaken, the book is still taught in high school and what better way to finish teaching a book then to show a revamped film version of it!
