It has been a long time since we last heard about Gerard Butler’s action biopic, Machine Gun Preacher, but now that the film finally has a very limited theatrical release set for September 23rd, it was only a matter of time before we got an official glimpse of the lead in character.
I don’t really know what to think of the film based off of the picture. I wouldn’t expect the first look to be of Butler to be of him smiling around a group of children but, then again, this is a story about redemption and transformation so I guess it works. I have no preconceived notions about the film and will have to wait until the trailer is released to form any sort of opinion about the picture. I can say that it does have a pretty good casting supporting it which is definitely a good start.
The Relativity film, which is directed by Marc Foster (Monster’s Ball, Quantum of Solace), stars Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan, Kathy Baker, Madeline Carroll, Michael Shannon, and Souleymane Sy Savane.

In this inspirational true story, Machine Gun Preacher is about Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.
