Another year is approaching its end, and still no Ghostbusters 3. Dan “Ray Stantz” Aykroyd has been talking about the next Ghostbusters adventure since the 1990s, yet something or other falls through — typically it’s the participation of the wonderful, but capricious, Bill Murray. But is there any hope left of seeing the boys on screen again? Find out after the jump!
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Aykroyd explains that he is now co-writing the script with Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, best known for their work on The Office. Apparently in an interview with GQ Murray had expressed misgivings about the duo’s writing talents based on the lackluster Year One, which they also wrote. Aykroyd goes on to reveal that the film is, as expected, still based on the old Ghostbusters retiring and a new crew taking over, since the old boys can’t hack it anymore.
Hmmm… I know I would love to see the gang back together, but the “old action heroes never die” plot was done to lukewarm success in the last Indiana Jones film, and I honestly can’t think of many young comedians who I think could hold their own with Murray, Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis in the roles of new Ghostbusters. But… come on! Imagine seeing Marshmallow Man and Slimer again! How cool would that be?
Aykroyd is eying a Christmas 2012 release for Ghostbusters 3. I imagine I’ll be posting a similar article to this one around then, with still no film in sight. So, what’s your take on it, readers? Any interest in Ghostbusters 3, or was 2 enough of a letdown for you?
