Among the various G.I. Joe media, there is no character more respected or revered than General Joe Colton, a character created in the comics to represent the original G.I. Joe action figure of the 1960s. As the story goes, Colton was given the G.I. Joe codename by President Kennedy himself and went on to form the G.I. Joe force. Although he didn’t pop up much in the comic book, when he did you knew he meant business (sort of like when your mother uses your full name to yell at you).
Who better to play Colton in the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel (which has been rumored to be subtitled either Cobra Strikes or Retaliation) than Bruce Willis, one of the greatest action stars of all time? Willis has been rumored for the role since early July, but Slash Film and other sites are reporting that Willis is close to signing on for the role.
Willis would be joining an already impressive cast including Channing Tatum (Duke), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Roadblock), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Stephen Martines (Cross-Country), Ray Stevenson (Firefly), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jayne), Joe Mazzello (Mouse), and the rumored RZA (Blind Master), Elodie Yung (Jinx), and D.J. Cotrona (Flint). The film will be directed by Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never). The script was written by Zombieland duo Paul Wenick and Rhett Reese. The film is set for a June 29, 2012 release in 3D, and Paramount is counting on it to bring in major bucks to make up for the now-delayed Star Trek 2 (which perhaps explains the expanded cast).
