Sometimes when an actor or actress is playing a real-life person and he or she is made up to look so uncannily like that person it’s a bit freaky. Honestly, I’m getting a little bit of that from the first image of Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln and Day-Lewis isn’t in costume and it isn’t even a clear shot. I mean, check it out below… Day-Lewis looks like he stepped off a $5 bill.
Of course, what’s even freakier is that this photo was taken while Day-Lewis was walking around Richmond, Virginia in his Lincoln costume. How nuts is that? You’re sitting there enjoying lunch and suddenly the 16th President walks in dressed like he just went shopping at Target. The picture was snapped by a local named Michael Phillips, according to JoBlo.com, which also says that Day-Lewis is doing his typical method acting craziness and talking in his best Abe Lincoln voice (which JoBlo calls “Abraham Lincoln’s famous accent”… I’m not sure the writer is aware that since Lincoln lived before audio recording the voice of Lincoln in, say, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure isn’t likely the accurate one). In fact, according to this article Lincoln’s voice was much higher than previous movies have lead us to believe… how about that? I guess I shouldn’t take all my historical knowledge from the movies.
