Shockingly, it has been fairly quiet when it comes to the John Gotti biopic, Gotti: Three Generations as of late. The last bit of news we reported was in regards to Nick Casavettes getting the boot as director and Barry Levinson getting the honor. Well that has all changed.
Fiore Films has just released an announcement explaining that the film has actually had a name change and will know be known as Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father.
This is a little interesting because John Gotti Sr. is allegedly what the majority of the film is about, the rise and fall of the mob boss. However it seems like John Gotti Jr. has stepped in and decided to change the title, possibly to give himself a little more fame? Now this is just my speculation but it makes sense, since he is involved in the film and was also on stage when they announced John Travolta would be playing John Gotti Sr. in the film. Regardless of the reason, I kind of liked the original title, seemed a bit more fitting.
Here is the official press release for the film:
Fiore Films, an independent production company, today announced that its film, with the working title “Gotti: Three Generations,” will be released theatrically as “GOTTI: In The Shadow Of My Father.”
Academy Award®-winning director Barry Levinson and Academy Award®-nominated writer James Toback, the same team that made “Bugsy,” which earned ten Academy Award® nominations, recently completed a polishing of the original screenplay, with Levinson set to begin directing the film in January on-location in New York.
The all-star cast includes John Travolta, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Lindsay Lohan and Kelly Preston, with other casting announcements expected soon.
Fiore Films acquired life rights from John Gotti, Jr., the son of the late mob boss John Gotti, to the story of his life with his father. The deal marks the first time a member of the Gotti family has entered into an agreement to tell their story for a major motion picture. Production is expected to begin in late fall, with a theatrical release in late 2012.
“GOTTI: In The Shadow Of My Father” reveals the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself. Never before has there been such an inside look at the life of the Gotti family and their world of danger, betrayal and redemption.
Fiore Films, LLC is a film production company with offices in Los Angeles and New Jersey. Films currently in production or development include “GOTTI: In The Shadow Of My Father” and “Mob Street.” More information is available at www.fiorefilmsllc.com.
