Next year will see the release of the first Marvel film with non mainstream characters in the form of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, an intergalactic action adventure that should be pretty cool to see on a big screen. The film, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel in the lead misfit roles of Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Groot respectively.
The first image of all five leads has arrived to start the new year off and it looks really good. All the characters look pretty damn cool even though I’m sure comic book fans will be a little bummed at the lack of skin Gamora is showing off and that Drax doesn’t look as green as he does in the comic book pages. Despite all that, I think this is shaping up to be a pretty neat film and I can’t wait to get our first look at some real footage especially since I want Dave Bautista to knock his role out of the park.
Marvel has also released the official synopsis for the film, which releases on August 1. Check it out below.
Lee Pace also stars in the film as Ronan the Accuser, while Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Glenn Close, and Benicio Del Toro are set to appear in the film as well.
From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the blanace. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
