You know a film (or films, in this case) is easily anticipated when fans are waiting to find out just what the official title is. Well, calling the dual Hobbit films “anticipated” is like saying winning the lottery is “pleasing” — Peter Jackson‘s upcoming prequel films to his massively popular and beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy are quite possibly the most anticipated films of the decade. According to TheOneRing.net, New Line Cinema has trademarked the following titles for the two-part film release. Those titles are:
The Hobbit: There and Again
and…
The Hobbit: An/The Unexpected Journey
Although TheOneRing.net puts the titles in that order, they make a lot more sense to me if you switched the around — the first film would likely be subtitled “An Unexpected Journey” being that, well, if it’s the second movie and you’re already on the journey it’s not quite unexpected, is it? Anyway, both titles are sourced from the text, which will make fans happy — There and Back Again is actually J.R.R. Tolkien’s subtitle to The Hobbit novel and in The Return of the King“My Unexpected Journey” is one of the titles Bilbo Baggins rejects as the title of his memoirs.
Many actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are returning to reprise their roles in the Hobbit project, including Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and Andy Serkis.
Actors new to Middle-Earth include the above pictured Thorin and Company: Martin Freemanas Bilbo Baggins, along with Richard Armitage, Aidan Turner, James Nesbitt, Graham McTavish, Robert Kazinsky, Jed Brophy, Ken Scott, Stephen Hunter, John Callen, Adam Brown, William Kircher, Mark Hadlow, and Peter Hambleton, who will all be playing Bilbo’s thirteen dwarf companions.
The film is set for a two-part release in December 2012 and 2013, and is directed by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, who also co-wrote the script.
