Yesterday I posted the official poster for the upcoming release of the Sundance crowd pleaser, Robot & Frank. Well, later that day the studio released the trailer for the film but I decided it would be best to not overload you with Robots and Frank Langella so that’s why you’re getting it now.
After watching the trailer I can understand why it’s a crowd pleaser and why Langella is getting praise for his performance. The robo-buddy dramedy idea looks like it’s being pulled off pretty well and everything about the trailer is honest and comedic which gives me hope that we can expect a truly entertaining and original piece of cinema.
Set in the near future, Frank, a retired cat burglar, has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone. They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank’s son chooses a different option: against the old man’s wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health. What follows is an often hilarious and somewhat heartbreaking story about finding friends and family in the most unexpected places.
