Today the winners of the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards were announced! There were two films that dominated the ceremony, Echoes of the Rainbow and Bodyguards and Assassins. In case you aren’t familiar with the Hong Kong Film Awards it is the equivalent of an American Oscar in Hong Kong, and is highly respected in Taiwan and mainland China. Check out some of the trailers for the winners after the jump.
My favorite trailers and movies that I want to see are Bodyguards and Assassins, Accident, and Departures. Bodyguards and Assassins is most likely going to come to America the fastest out of all the winners, it just seems to have the recipe for a successful foreign film that martial art lovers would just eat up. Additionally, I had seen the trailer for Accident awhile back but it still hasn’t made it over to the States yet but one day I am hoping it will. Overheard seems like a stock exchange Bourne identity type film, if that is even possible but could potentially be really cool to watch especially if it won for best film editing. Departures is cool because it won an Oscar last year and so it has become a requirement of mine to see it within the next few weeks. I think you all will enjoy the variety of winning films below and their creative trailers.
The following is the list of winners with their respected trailers (if available) below:
Best film: “Bodyguards and Assassins” (Shi yue wei cheng )

1905, City of Victoria (British Colony of Hong Kong). Before Dr. Sun Yat-Sen can become the Father of Modern China by instigating the revolution of 1911 that overturns the Qing Dynasty, his life is almost cut short when he arrives at Hong Kong for a secret meeting to establish a united anti-Qing revolutionary front.
In the distance of thirteen blocks, the one man Dr. Sun Yat-Sen who holds a nation’s fate must survive relentless attempts on his life with only five bodyguards, a group of ordinary men and women who actually possess extraordinary fighting skills.
