Come June 30th Japan will be the first country to see Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man, followed by the U.S release on July 3rd. So what better way to start the promo tour then by starting in Japan.
Youtuber Mr.Japanjpp posted about an hour long video of the actual press conference which featured Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach. Prior to the conference, there were rumors that the audience got to see a rough version of the film, but it has since been cleared up and they were shown only seven minutes of footage. What did that footage contain? No word exactly yet but I’m sure it will be released sooner or later by someone in attendance.
One of the more interesting quotes came from Arad who had the following to say about the Gwen Stacy character played by Stone:
In our movie, [Peter] finds his true love. Gwen Stacy was always the true love of Peter Parker… We found a very, very good story about what makes a human being. About what sets their destiny.
He went on the talk about Rhys Ifans character Dr Connors/The Lizard:
We introduce our villain, Dr. Connors, and in the great tradition of Marvel, Dr. Connors is going to be connected to Peter Parker and, in our case even more interesting, to Gwen Stacy. Right there, the challenge of having to deal with a villain who is a mentor and the only one who you can look at and say, ‘So what really happened to my dad?’ That’s a very hard person to fight.
There is much more that Garfield and Stone speak about regarding the development of their characters and how this film is set in a different time frame from Sam Raimi’s films. Also, if you ever wondered how strange it would be to do a press conference in a different country, you have to watch the video, Garfield still seems very nervous doing these press conference.
