As great as it would be to say Hugh Jackman is on board for the new Peter Pan film in the title role, sadly this isn’t the case. He is, however, trading in his usual heroic ways to try his hand at a more villainous role for the movie as he’ll stands directly opposite the hero of the story as an evil pirate.
The upcoming 2015 remake, dubbed ‘Pan‘ (not an official name) only has one other star attached to the project at the moment, young actor Garrett Hedlund (On The Road). The film is set to be a big-budget origins story about the boy who could fly and never grew up. Jackman won’t be playing Captain Hook – the main antagonist associated with the story, but rather the head pirate of the story, Captain Blackbeard. Hedlund will be playing Hook – a younger version you can only imagine, with this being an origins/retelling.
No word yet who will be playing the title role in Joe Wright‘s version of J.M. Barrie‘s classic tale but the story is set to follow Peter Pan as an orphan who is swept away to Neverland and goes on to become a hero among the natives there as he leads a rebellion against a band of evil pirates, led by Blackbeard.
It sounds like it could be a great fantasy adventure already, even with a limited cast announced. We can only hope it doesn’t end up being another big-budget Hollywood flop.
The film is slated for a July 17th 2015 release.
