Looks like Bryan Singer really is getting the band back together!
Ever since it was announced that Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films, would be returning to the franchise to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was speculated that he would be bringing back some of the X-Men from those earlier movies since the new movie involves some sort of time travel storyline. While most of us thought that would mean Hugh Jackman would be making a cameo as Wolverine, Singer himself tweeted out something even more exciting on his brand new Twitter: not only will James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast) be returning for the sequel, but so will Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart reprising their roles as older Magneto and Professor Xavier!
Even more exciting? Singer promises “More to come…”
I was completely surprised by this news, in a good way. When I heard Singer was bringing back some of the old cast, I had no idea that he would be bringing back two of the most accomplished actors to ever appear in comic book movies. Considering how both were treated in X-Men: The Last Stand (i.e. very poorly), I’ll be happy to see both get another turn in these roles.
