As you probably know by now, Toy Story 3 wasn’t the last time we’d Woody, Buzz, and friends on a movie screen. However, that doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing a Toy Story 4 anytime soon — in the Pixar tradition of animated shorts before their feature films, Cars 2 will have a Toy Story short before it. As previously reported, the short, titled Hawaiian Vacation, will feature the gang creating a Hawaiian fantasy for Ken and Barbie, who are bummed about being left behind when Bonnie takes a trip to Hawaii. From Bleeding Cool via Entertainment Weekly, we have the first images: the one above that shows the whole toy crew in the film, and another after the jump. I’ll also mention the latest rumors when we could catch a SECOND Toy Story short before the end of 2011!
It doesn’t look like any of our favorites are left out of the upcoming short — and the costumes already make me smile (and Disney is no doubt already seeing dollar signs from all the money it can make from selling Toy Story Hawaiian-style dolls!) and I already know that I can’t be the only one who can’t wait to see this!
On that note, there have also been rumors that a SECOND Toy Story short is in the works — this one will precede The Muppets, which will be released in November. Though I hope Pixar doesn’t quit making original animated shorts (like this year’s Oscar-nominated Day & Night), it’ll be nice to see Pixar continue to revisit their characters in short films, like they’ve been doing with the “Cars Toons” over the last several years.
Cars 2, with the accompanying Toy Story “Hawaii” short, will hit theaters on June 24.
