This year we were treated to another fun-packed action film filled with blood suckers. Moviebuzzers was able to take a moment to talk to a cast member of the instant-cult action film by producer Tim Burton and director Timur Bekmombetov, the beautiful Alex Lombard.
MovieBuzzers: You play Henry Sturges’ character’s girlfriend. How did you end up involved in the project?
Alex Lombard: My agent called me and said, “they’re filming this movie Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter down in New Orleans, I think this would be really good for you.” Moments later I was on the plane.
How was filming on location in New Orleans?
AL: You know, New Orleans is just to beautiful and full of history. All the architecture and details. It’s just amazing.
You’re no stranger to the South, are you?
AL: I’m a totally Southern Girl. I’m from Charleston.
Did you read the book also?
AL: I did. I actually read the book on my way down to New Orleans.
Had you seen any of Timur’s work before he did wanted?
AL: You know I haven’t which I need to. Cause, you know, I can’t call myself a real fan without seeing his entire body (of work) so that’s definitely on my list.
Are you familiar with his previous vampire films Night Watch and Day Watch?
AL: Yeah, I am, I am. Pretty amazing. He’s so talented.
How was his English?
AL: It’s ok, ya know. My best friend and writing partner is Eastern European so funnily enough I feel very comfortable around people with Eastern European accents. At one point he told everybody to be quiet in Russian and nobody except for me knew what he’d said. He shouted out, “Tikho!” and everyone was like, “what does that mean?”
Do you speak any other languages?
AL: Not really. I’m sort of a Jack of all trades and master of none. I did study Japanese for about a year. But, you know if you don’t live in a city where they speak the language it can be difficult to maintain.
How was Timur like as a director?
AL: He was wonderful, I felt very comfortable, very at home working with him, he really gives you a lot of freedom to explore and play which I think is really integral to the process of acting.
He’s the kind of director who allows you to act rather than force you into what he’d envisioned?
AL: I felt that way, yeah. He definitely has a vision and he is very focused when he works.
Did you get to be around any of the major action sequences?
AL: I didn’t and that would have been so cool. That’s what everyone keeps asking me and this time around I didn’t get to do any of the stunts or action stuff. I saw the movie and I was blown away by the action sequences.
You’re a fan of vampires, are you not?
AL: Yeah, I do like vampires, I love the genre.
Are you more into the Dark Shadows type vampires or more the Nosferatu category?
AL: Truth be told, I’m more of a modern vampire gal I think. I sort of recently jumped on the “vampiric bandwagon” if you will. For me my love of vampires probably started with True Blood.
So you’re into the “romampires?”
AL: (sighs) I am. I’m on team Edward. I’m just old-school that way. He was my first love of my first Twilight so I’ve stuck with him.
Did you feel Burton’s presence on the set?
AL: I definitely felt his presence. I didn’t meet him. I could tell the minute I walked on set that his stamp was all over the place.
What did you think of the finished film once you saw it in the theater?
AL: I loved it. I thought it was really fun. I think people are gonna like it. I really enjoyed all the historical stuff. It was not only entertaining but it was also very educational. I felt that they did a really good job of weaving the two together. It was a great history lesson and a wild ride at the same time.
