In a move that really shouldn’t surprise anyone that’s familiar with the distributor, Well Go USA has snagged North American rights, along with a few other territories, for the final film of the popular Ip Man trilogy starring Donnie Yen, Ip Man 3.
Well Go USA was the distributor behind the release of the first two awesome Ip Man films and I’m sure will do everything to promote the hell out of this final film, which is being shot in, wait for it, 3D. The film brings back the main team comprised of star Donnie Yen, director Wilson Yip, producer Raymond Wong and writer Edmond Wong. Production is slated to begin in early 2015 so we likely won’t see this film until extremely late in 2015 or early 2016, which is a really long time from now (the wait is going to kill me).
According to screenwriter Edmond Wong, “This film focuses on the master-student relationship between Ip Man and Bruce Lee…It also portrays Ip Man at a stage when he is searching for the real meaning in life.” There’s no word yet on who will play Bruce Lee but I imagine it has been a very long and difficult search to find the perfect guy to top off this series and, if the producers were smart, continue on with films focused on Bruce Lee (even though it isn’t needed).
This article is clearly more of an FYI since 2015 is a ways away, but just remember that this third film is slowly coming together.
