Isla Fisher caught some serious Hollywood attention with her breakout role in The Wedding Crashers, and has also starred in chick flicks such as Confessions of a Shopaholic and Definitely, Maybe. Now the Australian redhead will be starring in the comedy Desperados, written by Ellen Rappaport (The Jamie Kennedy Experiment). The buzz around the story is that it is a “female ‘Hangover,’” according to Filmofilia.
Before we make any assumptions (while the similarly marketed trailer for Bridesmaids was recently released as well), the script has “landed on the Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays two years ago,” which was right when The Hangover hit it big. The website reports that “the story will follow ‘three women [who] travel to Las Vegas to set right a situation that had one of the women leaving a scathing message for a man she actually likes.”
In addition, the movie will be directed by Betty Thomas, best known for Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, John Tucker Must Die, Dr. Doolittle, and Private Parts.
Fisher is already confirmed for the film, but two additional actresses have yet to be chosen. Perhaps here is where we can see some of Elizabeth Banks’ spot-on comedic timing (she’s so funny on 30 Rock), or something lighter from this year’s Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence. This would also be an excellent opportunity for under-the-radar actresses like Lindsay Price (Lipstick Jungle) or Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill) to really shine.
Do you think too many movies are trying to emerge from the shadow of The Hangover’s success? There is no word yet on when production will begin, but as more news emerges on this project, Movie Buzzers will keep readers informed!
