Back in December longtime James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson made it no secret that he agreed with much of the 007 fanbase’s love for Daniel Craig as the iconic secret agent: he reportedly offered Craig a contract to play Bond in FIVE more films in addition to November’s Skyfall. There’s been no word on whether that was a legitimate story or not, but perhaps the report meant that there is a deal for Craig to star in five Bond films TOTAL, because it’s being reported by Bond super-site MI6 that Craig will definitely star in two more Bond films after Skyfall, Bond 24 and 25.
That will make Craig the third-longest tenured Bond after Roger Moore (7 films) and original Bond Sean Connery (6 films plus the unofficial sequel Never Say Never Again). The article suggests that Sony would like the next film to be released in late 2014, but it seems like EON Productions, which produces the series, doesn’t want to rush a sequel so quickly. Craig is 44 so he has plenty of years left to play Bond, but let’s hope EON gets it together quicker than it took to put Skyfall together because Roger Moore at 57 was awful in A View to Kill (though I can see Craig being a bigger bad-ass at 57 than Moore was at that age). However, it would be cool to get Bond 25 in 2017, which would be the 55th anniversary of the first film, or even 2018, which would be the 65th anniversary of the character’s debut in literature. After all, Skyfall coming out during the film franchise’s 50th anniversary year is a cool touch.
Either way, Skyfall is set for a November release… something everyone seems to be looking forward to!
