Update: THR, Deadline, Variety and other news outlets are now confirming that Jamie Foxx will play the role of Django. So that pretty much settles that mystery, original story follows.
This has not been confirmed yet, but supposedly Jamie Foxx will be playing Django, a role which was originally offered to Will Smith, in Tarantino‘s next film, Django Unchained.
Originally, it was believed that Will Smith would be taking on the role in the film, (which is who Tarantino originally wanted), but there have been some issues and Smith has had to turn down the role. There isn’t an official reason as to why Smith didn’t do the film, but rumors suggest, it’s due to the jokes about Scientology in the Weinstein’s film The Master.
The film is about a freed slave, Django (Foxx) who is trying to free his wife Broomhilda, from big time slave owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). On his journey, Django meets a German dentist/bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) who kills white slave-runners. That’s pretty much the movie in a nutshell thus far.
The film is suppose to begin production in the next few months, so more information should come out the sooner we get to the actual start date. Again this information has not yet been confirmed but all signs point to Foxx getting the role.
