We love Jason Statham around these parts, so when there’s an interesting bit of news we feel the need to share it with you guys. For those that read this site often enough you know that we are also partial to Asian films, or at least Tom and I are, so when Statham revealed that he wants to work in China, the news caught my attention.
While on the publicity tour for The Expendables 3, Statham said at a Chinese press conference in Beijing that he’d like to star in a Chinese action film with local talent. Specifically, he was quoted saying that he “had this idea, but for years I still haven’t fulfilled it…The key is finding the right project with the right person.” Much of this likely stems from The Transporter, the film that made his career in which he worked alongside HK director Corey Yuen back in 2002 and ever since he’s been eagerly awaiting the right project to make his debut in China.
Apparently, Statham’s not the only one that wants him to make a Chinese Film, Zhang Zhao, CEO of Le Vision Pictures and one of the producers of The Expendables 2 and 3 said that they would help the martial artist develop “an action movie only for Chinese audiences.” Sounds like we might actually get something sooner rather than later, but we all know Mr. Statham will make have to make sure the project is badass enough and not too cheesy if the Chinese expect him to be a part of it.
I’d be down for a Donnie Yen Jason Statham modern-day rumble, but who would you like to see Jason Statham fight if he heads to China?
