Jason Statham is a busy man and he’s been cranking action film after action film for the past few years but it looks like things are going to change. According to Deadline, Statham is in talks to return to his comedic roots by joining Paul Feig’s (Bridesmaids, The Heat) next feature film, Susan Cooper, which reunites Feig with funny woman Melissa McCarthy.
In the film, McCarthy plays a secret agent and Statham would play a spy on the same side of the law, probably as her eventual partner. I actually really like this pairing, it reminds me a bit of the Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg pairing in The Other Guys but in a Get Smart type of film.
While many of Statham’s movies always include a little bit of his comedic wit, nothing has really taken full advantage of his comedic arsenal than the films that made him a star, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. He can be very charismatic when he wants to and when you take his approach to humor and combine it with the craziness of Melissa McCarthy and the directorial hand of Feig we just might end up with one hell of a fun film.
