Jeremy Renner is becoming quite the action star with Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol hitting theaters next month as well as his new lead role in Tony Gilroy‘s The Bourne Legacy next year.
Empire was able to sit down with Renner and get him to spill a little bit of information on the next saga of Bourne films and what we can expect.
My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new program and new characters.
We have known from the beginning that this film will not have a relationship to the previous films but that it would still revolve around the Treadstone program and that this was an entire new group of agents.
Renner had the following to say regarding the program and the direction of the film,
Yeah, it’s that same deal, it’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.
In case you haven’t heard, Jason Bourne will not be involved with these films nor will he appear other than a rumoured flashback here or there.
The Bourne Legacy stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn and has an expected released by Universal August 3, 2012.
