Just when we were recovering from the wave of mixed comments after seeing the first trailer for the upcoming Jonathan Liebesman directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, more news about casting, or rather voicing, has been unveiled. It seems that the young guys physically performing the roles of the turtles weren’t guaranteed to also lend their voices to the film, at least for two of the characters.
Deadline is reporting that Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub have been signed to voice Leonardo and his master Splinter. That’s right, Monk is now a giant martial arts teaching rat and the Jackass leader is the leader of the turtles.
Forgive me if I seem a bit taken a back with this news, I’m just trying to put Johnny Knoxville’s voice to the awesomeness of my favorite turtle, Leonardo. I suppose if these turtles were adults it’s one thing, but they aren’t, not that Mr. Knoxville doesn’t act like a kid, his voice just isn’t usually one of cool, young confidence, rather, he has the ability to express pervy old confidence like in Bad Grandpa. I think what’s more surprising is that Leonard isn’t the joker of the group, which is what Knoxville is known for, but I refuse to hate on the choice until I see footage with his voice accompanying it. As for Shalhoub, it’s probably a decent fit for what the movie is going for.
What do you all think of these choices?
