Iron Man was the Marvel Comics film that got the whole “Marvel Film Universe” moving — not just because it was the first film in The Avengers series, but because it was a great film. Face it, if Iron Man was a bad movie and/or tanked at the box office, we would not be anticipating Thor or Captain America right now. And while Iron Man 2 wasn’t quite as awesome as the original (but it was definitely great in its own right), it’s unfortunate to hear this bit of latest news: Iron Man/Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau will not be returning to direct Iron Man 3. Hit “more” to find out some further details…
Speculation has suggested that Favreau left the gig either because the storyline of Iron Man 3 is up in the air because it will be fully rooted in the fallout of The Avengers movie (In an interview earlier this month with MTV, Favreau said “In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers. This whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they [Marvel film executives] do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”) or simply because Favreau‘s price-tag is now too high based on all his recent success. Either way, I’m not sure what I’m disappointed about more — that Favreau won’t be in the director’s seat, or that Happy Hogan won’t be driving Tony Stark’s limo.
