Now that he’s had his turn at making blockbuster films like Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, writer/director/star Jon Favreau returns to the indie world with his upcoming foodie comedy titled Chef. The film’s about a very talented chef who decides to leave his job at a prestigious restaurant rather than sacrifice his “creative integrity” and decides to open a food truck with the help of his family and friends.
Though he may have left the big budget behind for this film, Favreau hasn’t left the big names in the dust as Chef boasts a talented supporting cast comprised of Robert Downey, Jr., Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, and Scarlett Johansson. The film premiered at SXSW back in March from mixed to positive reviews and that’s how I imagine it’ll play out when it his theaters on May 9th.
The trailer looks like a fun little comedy about doing what you’re passionate about, but it doesn’t seem like something that’ll be remembered after 2014 has passed, which is ok. If you love food then you’ll enjoy this trailer as the one thing it certainly makes clear is that this will be comical food porn at its finest. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
When Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—and zest for life and love.
