There’s no doubt that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Lincoln) is a must-see celebrity on the rise. Movie Buzzers recently reported that the actor’s directorial debut, Don Jon’s Addiction, was purchased by Relativity after a buzz-worthy debut at the Sundance Film Festival (see article here). In addition, we’ve shared the first images of the project back in December (& here) for the film which Gordon-Levitt also wrote the screenplay.
Not only is the hype growing behind the film, but its title has been changed to Don Jon, which is much easier on the tongue. Not to mention that on the Gordon-Levitt’s Facebook page, he revealed that the name change came as a result of being “a fan of brevity.”
The film follows a Don Juan-esque womanizer, played by Gordon-Levitt, who is trying to reform his philandering ways. Also, he explains that “people were assuming it was a film about porn addiction and sex addiction, which really isn’t true. That’d be sort of like saying ‘The Maltese Falcon’ is a movie about a statue of a falcon. DON JON is a comedy about how men and women treat each other, and how the media we consume can create unrealistic expectations that we put on one another.”
The movie also stars Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers), Julianne Moore (Carrie), Tony Danza (Crash), Glenn Headley (Mr. Holland’s Opus), and Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World).
The newly released images of the movie, courtesy of Moviefone, show the iron-pumping actor / director / writer in the gym, standing closely with Danza (his on-screen father), and sharing some flirtatious eye contact with Johansson.
So far, IMDB is reporting that the film is set for a September premiere in Russia. Do you think Gordon-Levitt’s triple duty cinematic debut is worth all the fuss? What do you think of the casting in the film?
